A new type of waterjet propulsion technology will offer customers multiple benefits without needing to compromise on efficiency.
The maker of the HamiltonJet waterjet has offered a sneak peek at the company’s latest innovation. The company has been a leading developer of advanced, innovative marine propulsion systems since founder Bill Hamilton discovered a way to navigate the shallow waters of the rivers near his New Zealand home in the 1950s.
Now HamiltonJet is developing a completely new type of waterjet – one that marks a major departure from anything the company has produced before. The new technology will be unveiled in June 2023, but E&H Marine readers can enjoy an exclusive preview of HamiltonJet’s take on the future of medium-speed travel.
HamiltonJet’s precision technology is known for producing superior products and leading industry innovation. This new waterjet is no exception.
“We are very excited about this new waterjet. It’s something we considered doing in the past, but the timing and technology were not as good as they are now to develop it to its full potential,” says HamiltonJet future products manager Diego Muller.
As demand grows for more efficient and sustainable water travel, the market is growing rapidly.
“With increasing pressure to reduce emissions in the marine industry there is also a strong focus on improving efficiency,” adds Muller. “More vessels are becoming electric or hybrid and [operators are] looking to reduce battery size and weight. One way to enable this is to have more efficient propulsors, and the other is to reduce vessel speed. HamiltonJet didn’t have the right product to meet these requirements – until now.”
Best of both worlds
However, just because HamiltonJet is using less energy to do more, customers won’t miss out on any of the benefits currently provided by its original waterjet collection, including shallow draft, manoeuvrability, and the safety of people and marine life in the water.
Furthermore, all these benefits can be enjoyed without compromising on efficiency.
“We are opening our products to a much wider market. Many applications that wouldn’t previously have been considered suitable for waterjets can now benefit from this new technology,” Muller continues. “So we are no longer a product solely for high-speed craft. We are a product for a wider range of applications.”
For more than 50 years HamiltonJet has been at the forefront of meeting consumer needs, constantly innovating to drive greater power and efficiency from its waterjets. This new jet is no exception.
