My wife and I booked our Covid-19 vaccines this morning. The website is simple and I managed to get a slot on Monday the 13th of September, less than a month away. Go to: https://bookmyvaccine.covid19.health.nz/ to book yours. If dates don’t come up at one location then I suggest you try another.
Please be aware that you do not need to wait for a text message as long as you are in the right age group. They are now taking bookings from the over 40s.
Whilst I respect that vaccination is a personal choice, I would still encourage you to trust the science and effectiveness of this method. We live in a society today free from illnesses like smallpox, measles and typhoid because of effective vaccination programs, so I hope that most of you will get on to this swiftly. The country will be a safer place once the vaccination rate rises.
In addition, I urge you all to use the Health Helpline (0800 358 5453). If you are at all symptomatic then call and see if they think you need a test. If you do then please get one as soon as possible. You will have heard the government praise the first individual to contract the Delta variant for their community minded action. Early indication is key to swift and effective control of an outbreak. Please do not assume you do not have it. The person in this case had no reason to suspect they had the virus, but they still acted in everyone’s best interest.
The partner of one of our team (Saxon Gregory-Hunt in Tech Services) works in a Christchurch lab that analyses COVID-19 tests. Saxon sent me this picture from this morning showing a batch of around 1000 tests that had come in overnight. The lab is one of many around the country handling several shipments like this each day. We owe our thanks to these folks, and everyone else in our communities who work to stop the spread.
