I like the start of spring. It is probably my favourite time of year. The dullness and cold of winter is mostly behind us and we have another 9 months before it is back again, with the summer in the middle to warm us up. The other reason I like spring is because its an optimistic time. New leaves are just breaking through on the trees. Plants are rising from the ground. Roses are beginning to show new growth.
I think this year we need the optimism around us more than ever. We have been facing a global pandemic, which is still causing significant disruption to life around the world, and in New Zealand our lucky-streak is over and we are facing a worrying time whilst we ramp up our vaccination program. Add to that, we had another ghastly terror attack at a supermarket in Auckland yesterday so we need to stay positive and think about the future.
Fortunately, South Island seems to be doing OK and remains Covid free. As a business we are facing a wave of orders on the back of government and essential services spending from around the world, mainly for our new products which is a really encouraging sign. We are hiring folks fast to keep up with demand and as long as we don’t have any more lockdowns, I think we are in for a good year.
I hope you can all stay positive at this time. Life is full of ups and downs, and it feels like that more than ever at the moment. I hope you all enjoy the weekend. The sun is shining!
