Lockdown Thoughts 2.12 - Sunday Funday

So today in our bubble, we decided it would be Sunday-Funday! Originally we decided that it would including drag-racing our old 4x4 beater around the paddock, an air rifle shoot-out and some archery (with the kids archery set we bought when we first arrived in NZ). However the weather got the better of us and by 2pm we decided we would play cards instead.

I love Texas Hold’em. I think it is a really well-balanced game of cards, with a clear winner, a clear looser and the fun of gambling to go with it. No money exchanged hands, only honour and shame! My wife, my eldest daughter, my eldest son and his girlfriend Monique played with me for a few hours this afternoon.

One of the reasons I like it is that it is half luck (i.e. down to the cards you get dealt) and half psychology, bluffing and gamesmanship! Everyone can win if they get good cards, and the best players can win even if they don’t! I always sit somewhere in between.

Whilst the day was a bit of a wash-out, the time we spent together was still good and the memory will last. I hope you all managed to do something fun too.

The picture is of my daughter loosing a hand against me. She thought she had won until she realised her run only had 4 cards, not 5 in it! The irony is that she went on to win the game. Well done Megan!
